Spring Cleaning: A How-To Guide for Getting Rid of JUNK

24 Mar

Although this year it could hardly pass for spring, believe it or not, it is SPRING! After this miserable winter, I couldn’t be happier to welcome spring. But with spring comes the infamous spring cleaning tradition – the time of year when everyone collectively decides to clean random things. I never really understood that but I can’t complain. The germaphobe and neat freak in me secretly loves it. That’s why I chose to write about it!

I recently became a contributing writer over at Honesty For Breakfast, a site that offers all kinds of articles written by contributors all over the country on topics such as entertainment, dating and sex, career and more! My recent contributions have been a series spring cleaning guides on getting rid of all that excess junk you’ve accumulated over the years. After graduating college in May, I realized just how much useless things I had in my possession. Since then I’ve become a pro at some real, cut-throat cleaning. Check out the guides:

Professional Wardrobe: Spring Must-Haves

17 Mar

What a bipolar winter we’ve had! I’m starting to think this is how the world is just going to be forever…and ever. One day 65 degrees and partly cloudy, the next 27 and snowing. When will it end?!

In an effort to keep an open mind about this weather, I’ve started to prepare for my spring work wardrobe – and by that I mean I made a Pinterest board full of items my closet will probably never see. My fashion goals this spring are plain and simple: achieve a stellar outfit without having to work too hard…or iron. Then again, isn’t that every lady’s goal?

To get the looks I want, I’ll need a few essential pieces that I can pair with numerous other items already in my wardrobe. Here’s what I’m thinking:

Usually, polka dots aren’t my thing but with the pop of the bright aqua cardigan, they aren’t overwhelming. Key item: patterned blouse.

Before I ever had a blazer, I didn’t realize how much I was missing out. Blazers are lifesavers! They keep you warm AND you can put just about anything under them. My favorite: all my cute summer tanks that I never get to wear in winter. Top them with a blazer and I’m good to go! Key item: blazer.

Although I could never pull this off, I love this look! She looks so put together but fresh and free-spirited at the same time. Key item: striped pencil skirt.

You can’t beat this classic fitted dress. It has the perfect amount of professional and sexy. Plus, it goes with just about anything. Score! I’m loving the solid, quiet grey that allows the accessories to do the work for it. Key item: solid fitted dress.

Here’s a fun, easy look. She has a classy but edgy blazer with the color pop skirt. I’m thinking some coral somewhere in the outfit would have topped it all off. Key item: solid pencil skirt.

Since I work in West Virginia where the signature colors are old gold and blue, this outfit struck my eye. It was a great idea to pair the green statement necklace to add another element to the outfit. Key item: statement necklace.

Of course, I could go on for days and days about all the wardrobe items I need this spring but I’ll not bore you with my tired wardrobe desires.

So, what items or fashion trends are you trying to achieve this spring?

10 Fall Must-Haves

13 Sep

“Autumn…the year’s last, loveliest smile.” -William Cullen Bryant

What isn’t there to love about the fall? Nature’s beautiful colors. Back-to-school buzz. Pumpkin coffee. It is a beautiful thing!

As the Autumn season of 2013 quickly approaches, I figured I’d offer my fall must-have checklist (complete with photos!) Enjoy!

Navy blue and white chevron infinity scarf

♥Perfect with those brown leather riding boots and a green military jacket!

Dunkin Donuts Pumpkin ANYTHING!

♥You know how much I love coffee! This is the best time of year for coffee…PUMPKIN! Dunkin has the best flavor. Not too sweet, not too thick. It is definitely worth a try, even if you’re not a fan of pumpkin.

Tickets to an athletic event

♥Sure it’s cold but it isn’t too cold to get out and do something! This article in Women’s Health Mag said couples who attend baseball games are more likely to stay together. There’s football, baseball, basketball and more!

A good book

♥When the days get shorter and the nights get longer, there’s no better feeling than cuddling up with a good book. End of story.

Wood

♥Tis the season for bonfires! Find some old wood. Bored on a cold Saturday? Wood is an excellent resource for all kinds of crafts.

Oversized sweater

♥These are absolutely adorable! So stylish and they match everything. Plus, they’re warm and you don’t have to try to look skinny.

New pair of running shoes

♥There are tons of charity runs/walks/races as the school year kicks back into gear and also for October’s National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Wine, Wine, Wine

♥Because why not? “The discovery of a wine is of greater moment than the discovery of a constellation. The universe is too full of stars.” – Benjamin Franklin

Autumn-scented candle

♥A special place in my heart is reserved for the love of fall candles. So warm and relaxing. Definitely a must have!

Clever and original Halloween costume

halloween♥Spend $65 on a costume? No. Clever costume ideas can be found everywhere, even on the cheap! Goodwill provided a detailed guide on Halloween costume shopping in their stores. Here’s a list of last year’s best trick-or-treaters:

So there you have it, my friends. This is what this fall means to me! I’m looking forward to it. Hope you enjoyed my list.

What are your fall must-haves this year? I’d love to hear from you 🙂
